music news scotland - may 2011 / week 4 SPARROW FEST - Sunday 29th May - Black Sparrow, Glasgow
Sunday 29th May will see the very first Sparrow Fest in the Black Sparrow pub on Glasgow’s Charing Cross. Live acts and DJs playing on both levels of the pub and also (weather permitting) in the out- side beer garden. There will also be a Barbeque if the sun shines on the day!
www.glasgowmusic.co.uk has been run- ning a series of live stripped back, acous- tic and electro shows at the Black Spar- row on weekly Thursday nights. The festi- val is going to be in a similar vein of bands stripped back and a few surprises thrown in for good measure.
We are delighted to announce the line-up for the 29th May and are very excited that there will be something for everyone.
Piano led First Charge of the Light Bri- gade draw comparisons to Wilco and are
growing a larger fan base by the gig. Pas- sionate and intense performer and recent Scottish Alternative Music Award winner for Best Acoustic Alan McKim will whip you into a frenzy.
Lady Gaga-esque pop tunes with Bur- lesque dancers with Miss Baudelaire. joyous harmonious pop ditties from Sonny Marvello. the new breed. Upstairs as chosen by Dave Ross will see Mash, Dave Ross, Gerry Lyons, and Stevie Elements spin- ning some vinyl tunes. Downstairs cho- sen by Craig McGee will feature himself plus Jay Allan, Leanne Scott, Nite- works, Xavia and Murray Easton (Everything Flows). Dave Ross has requested that the older generation get the upstairs bar in which to showcase their style, Craig thinks this is because “they will find the stairs tricky to negotiate….”
Craig Commented “The idea came about after I used the Black Sparrow as part of the recent Acoustoblaster tour; I thought the outside area would be perfect.” Dave also added “It was something we wanted to do for a while and I think it’s a great concept.”
The best part of it all; in keeping with the Thursday nights this whole event is FREE entry!
