BEST BET: Americana

THE MEMBERS OF SOUTHERN CULTURE on the Skids once described their sound as “toe-sucking geek rock — kinda weird, but it feels good when you’re doing it.” Since its formation in 1983, SCOTS has stuck to this toe-sucking geek rock, performing in nightclubs, arenas and festivals of all sizes, gaining popularity along the way with songs like “Camel Walk,” “Voodoo Cadillac,” and “Fried Chicken and Gasoline.” This trio has fused together Americana, rock, surf, country and folk music to seemingly create its own genre. But that’s what makes this band one-of-a-kind: you may not see the members stage diving, but what you will see is a band completely comfortable in its Southern skin, twanging lyrics, dancing raucously and dressing like they were straight out of the ‘50s or ‘60s. So be comfortable in yer own skin, and maybe you’ll find yerself a movin’ and a groovin’ alongside of ‘em. By Garrett Dennert
