Dewar’s extends packaging
redesign Dewar’s has extended the family look for its range of blended Scotch whiskies with the launch of a stunning new design. The design develops the innovative ‘wave’ in the bottle, which is a feature of the brand’s White Label and 12 Year Old whiskies. The wave, which symbolises the famous well-rounded flavour of Dewar’s, is here expanded to incorporate the medals which Dewar’s has won in international competition. These medals are embossed into the glass, which is produced in Scotland by O-I, the world’s leading glassmaker. As with the other Dewar’s whiskies, the wave cuts through the self- adhesive label. The premium nature of the 18 Year Old is conveyed through the embossing, crimson and gold labelling and the use of a cork closure. Scott Gibb, sales manager for O-I in Scotland, says, “The Dewar’s range shows how effectively glass can be utilised in an innovative way to improve brand standout for a family of products attacking a variety of price points and targeted at different audiences.” For more information call 01259 218822, email

Hearty eggs…
now even better Denny Bros has recently helped Fridays to present an on-pack, money-off promotion to tempt new customers to trial the brand. Formerly ‘The Hearty Egg’, the newly renamed Hearty brand contains 40% of the recommended daily intake of omega-3. The ‘Save 30p’ and ‘Save 50p’ promotion is flashed across a bright red Fix-a-Form multi-page label which explains the concept of the ethical hearty brand by using a small but perfectly formed set of ‘chicken and egg’ illustrations. The 4-page, resealable Fix-a-Form has an extended semi-thermal base label to allow for the overprinting of variable data including essential date coding and packing details. 180,000 machine-applied Fix-a-Forms were produced for the campaign. The
marketing manager of Fridays said: “The Fix-a-Form was the right medium for this promotion as it allowed us to add a striking advert seen at the point of sale.” For more information call 01284 701381, email

FLEXICON GIVES RISE TO IMPROVED PACKING FOR EXPORT
The recent introduction of a Flexicon Bulk Bag Discharger and Batch Weighing System at the Evesham production facility of Dawn Foods has enabled the company to transform its food processing and packing line to one that now has the flexibility to pack in either single 25kg bags or one- tonne bulk bags. The Evesham plant produces original US based cake mixes in 25kg bags. To produce the recipe mix, bulk raw materials (flour –
sugar) are blown directly from a combination of five external 40 tonne silos to one of two mixers sited within the dry mix plant; one for chocolate and the other for non-chocolate mixes, then the remaining minor ingredients are manually dumped indirectly into the mixer via an adjacent manual dump station.
