THE EUROPEAN HOTEL DESIGN AWARDS 2011 CALL FOR ENTRIES
The European Hotel Design Awards return on Tuesday 22 November 2011, celebrating thewealth of exceptional hotel design across Europe. The evening, set to honour thework of architects, designers and developers,will be held at the Park Plaza, London, whichwas thewinner of the Interior Design category for Best Bedrooms & Bathrooms Award at last year’s Awards. The crème-de-la-crème of the industrywill once again be acknowledged through 13 dedicated awards. The deadline for entries is 27 May 2011. ENTER IN STYLE AT DECOREX 2011
With a host of exciting plans underway for Decorex International 2011, the organisers have announced that interior designer Nicky Haslam will be designing and curating the lobby area to this year’s event. Following the creative footsteps of designers such as Ed Godrich, John Stefanidis and Nina Campbell, Nicky and his team will create a stunning and theatrical area, using their years of design expertise and showcasing their own product and that of Decorex’s much loved exhibitors. British Furniture Design The FurnitureMakers Company announces the Design Guild Marks for 2011.
The Design Guild Marks introduced by The Furniture Makers Company recognises and rewards excellence in the British design of furniture in volume production and the companies to be awarded have now been announced. Although there was a very extensive list of submissions the eminent Judges only selected eleven products to receive a Design Guild Mark.

one of the only award systems where all products meeting the criteria are called into a warehouse to enable the judges to assess them. The designers and manufacturers are now able to use the Design GuildMark Logo and The FurnitureMakers Company Crest on the piece, and in their promotional literature. By the award of this GuildMark for designs which met the Company’s criteria, the designers received due recognition and the industry will be made more aware of the importance of investment in design.

Interior Designer Susan Llewellyn launches new academy
Celebrated British Interior Designer, Susan Llewellyn has launched The Susan Llewellyn Academy of Interior Design. The new venture has been developed
in partnership with interior designer Cara Corker and business Director Angela Hamlin and opened its doors to students for the first time on 9th May with courses running throughout the year. Based at the Draycott Education Centre just off the Kings Road in the heart of fashionable Chelsea, the new Academy creates a unique opportunity for anyone waning to satisfy their thirst for a wider
knowledge of interior design. The Academy will offer master classes and specialist courses, aimed at both amateurs and professionals, encouraging them to cultivate their design skills with a practical focus. The courses have been designed to encourage and equip students with the knowledge and practical skills to set up their own interior design business. The lessons will cover a broad spectrum of topics
