22 selkirk common riding 2011 Ex-Soldiers


Selkirk Ex-Soldiers Association marks its Centenary in this year, 2010 after being formed in January 1910 for the purpose of maintaining a strong and democratic comradeship for all those who had served their country with the Forces. The first meeting place


of the Association where


rooms for social intercourse and recreation were secured in Ladywell Cottage, Back Row and later in the old Burgh School. In the same year the Town Council granted consent to the inclusion of the Ex-Soldiers in the Common Riding procession and their Standard Bearer - Mr W Park - cast the colours of the Association for the first time in the Market Place. The first office bearers were: Chairman, Mr James M Scott (late Royal Scots); secretary and treasurer, Mr J Lothian; committee members Messrs Henderson, Bulmer, Collier, Donoghue, Russell, Law and Houston.
