rescheduled from December toMarch. Players from Scotland and one from England displayed a very high and competitive level. out to Aarhus in Denmark for the annual Aros Cup. The competition is one of the best in Denmark and alongside the Danish Junior Cup, Aros attracts players from many countries
including Croatia, England, Germany, Norway, Sweden, Scotland and of course Denmark. The Danish club system had over 50 clubs participating in the competition with a total of 331 competitors throughout four age groups. Entry to the Aros Cup is restricted to

International entrants and any Danish players who are Elite orMaster rankings. The ranking system in Denmark consists of age
groups that often include competitions for Under 9 years all the way through to senior. Each age group has a ranking with Elite being the top level,Master, A, B, C and D with competitions aimed at players within these levels. As an International competition Aros is played
over four days.Mixed on Thursday, singles on Friday, doubles on Saturday and all finals on Sunday. In general many top Danish players entered only two events with a view to tough competition and performing well in their chosen events. The Aros Cup is hosted by Viby Badminton Club
and they have a purpose built six-court hall. To accommodate the 331 players the organisers used another hall within walking distance consisting of 12

courts and the 10-court club of Egelund, which is a 10-minute drive from Viby. In the under 17 event Josh Neil and Ben
Torrance both won through their groups and won their next rounds before moving into the quarter finals. Josh had wins over Lasse Lindvald of Aarhus AB
and Kasper Helsholt of the prestigious Gentofte club. In the last 16 Josh beat Kristopher Gisler of Ikast in three games before losing to top seed and eventual runner-upMathias L Hansen of Herning BK. Ben won through his group with wins over
Martin Humle of Hojberg andMads GrillMousing of Viby. Ben won his last 16 match before losing to Patrick Buhl of Roskilde HBK. In the doubles event Josh and Ben lost in their
group 21-18 in the third against a very tough Danish pair. At Under 15 level Adam Hall and English partner
Harrison Simcock reached the quarter-finals of the doubles, where they met the top Swedish pairing of Alex Loung and Thai To, who beat them 23-21 21-18 after some great play from both pairs. Adam had a tough group in his singles, winning one match and losing to top playerMikkel Enhoj of Lillerod BK. With Denmark being such a force in badminton
it is always a learning experience for players and coaches to attend the events held there. The three boys from Glasgow School of Sport
were a credit to the school and competed well in all of their matches. After returning home there are no doubts on the competition level required to reach the top in Denmark and it’s an eye opener for the young players with a view on returning next year to compete at the highest level.
