they underlined their promise by claiming a clean sweep of titles. Of course, it was no surprise.
The pair had already won the boys’ doubles at Under-13 level at the Bank of Scotland Championships atMeadowbank in April - a performance that earned theMoira Skene Award for the most meritorious performance. A few weeks later and here
they were adding the Under-11 crown with a convincing 21-9 victory in the final over Dumbarton’s Lloyd Holland and Irvine’s Jack Riddell. The only slight shock came in
the singles when Christopher, who was the No. 2 seed, beat his top-ranked brother. But it was always going to be a tricky match for both and it was as close as the 21-18 scoreline suggested. In the girls’ events, Edinburgh’s
Lily Farnood claimed the singles championship by defeating Rothesay’s Sarah Sidebottom 21-15 in the final. Sarah gained revenge in the
doubles when she joined forces with Dundee’s LaurenMiddleton and beat Farnood and Lanark’s Jennifer Lafferty 21-10. As ever, it was a terrific day at

Grimley springs a surprise
Scotstoun with hordes of Scottish youngsters getting the chance to play at a competitive level in the one-game matches. It really was all about having fun as much as winning titles. But keep an eye on the name
Grimley. The boys won a couple of age-group titles in Antwerp
prior to the Scotstoun success. The boys from Car- donald could be set for very bright futures. Strangely, they are not the only Scottish twins to
launch careers at Bank of Scotland Under-11 Championships. A few years ago,Motherwell’s Hannah and SophieMorrison won both Under-11 titles - this season the pair had a clean sweep at Under-15 level. As ever, BADMINTONscotland were tremen-
dously grateful to such loyal support from Bank of Scotland. “This was the last age group Championships of the season and it was great to see these stars of the future in action at Scotstoun,” said Anne Smillie, Chief Executive of BADMINTONscotland. Susan Rice,Managing Director for Lloyds
Banking Group, Scotland, added: “Bank of Scotland is delighted to support the continued development of Scotland’s aspiring young badminton talent. The players on show at the Bank of Scotland Under-11 National Junior Championships represent the future of the game and we really enjoy seeing them competing on this stage.Well done to all this season’s champions.”
