B& C Blacktop & Sealcoating ran to handle not only sealcoating, crack sealing, and infrared repair, but also full line paving and some cement work.

“We are 90 percent commercial and 10 percent residen- tial,” Myers says. “We do everything from filling potholes all the way to doing all of the underground work when installing a new parking lot. It is everything from a $300 project up to about $700,000.”

Today, B & C Blacktop & Sealcoating specializes seal- coating, hot-crack seal, removal and replacement of as- phalt, overlay (capping), seamless infrared repair, patching, grade and pave, and new installations for both residential and commercial sites. They also do commercial striping. They also can do grading and paving of estab- lished gravel driveways and do snow removal in the winter time. “We keep a couple of guys busy during the winter- time and keep a couple of customers on as snow removal customers.

If we are not doing snow removal, we are doing sales and maintenance all winter,” Myers says.

With a team of 37 employees, B & C Blacktop & Seal-

coating can do all of the little jobs required in pavement maintenance and installation. “We run a full-time com- mercial seal crew, a full-time residential seal crew, a con- crete crew, a prep crew, and a paving crew,” Myers says. “We have four skidloaders, 8-9 rollers, 2 Leeboy pavers, 3 seal trucks, plus a big bulk support tank, and tons and tons of support equipment and trucks.”

And Myers’ employees are very knowledgeable and skilled. He admits, “We took an attitude about five years ago that we are not a training facility. You either come to us with the tools that you need to do your job or go get your experience somewhere else and come reapply.” This allow him to send out crews he knows will get a project done correctly to his specifications and to the customer’s satisfaction. However, he does introduce new workers to the paving industry every year. “We hire about 2-3 guys with no experience every year to work on the seal crews strictly as laborers.”

It is this skilled work force that has allowed Myers to ful- fill the vision for his company. His mission statement says it clearly: We strive to honestly evaluate the work required
