Scrolls list boats built in town


A fascinating list of boats built in the town has gone on display at Looe’s Old Guildhall Museum.


Scrolls listing the vessels built at Curtis and Pape shipyard on the West Looe River from 1942 onwards can now be viewed.


Looe mayor Jimmy Dingle presents a prize to Lynn Wilson and Kealy Roberts of the Cornwall Hospice Care charity shop in Fore Street, East Looe.


The shop won the town’s Royal


Wedding shop window competition.


Jimmy said: ‘There were some very good entries and a worthy winner creating a thoughtful and tasteful picture.’


Doctors’ surgery revamped


The refurbishment of Old Bridge Surgery, East Looe, has been finished ahead of an expected influx of new patients when the housing development at St Martins is finished.


Patients now benefit from two new consulting rooms, a physio suite, and a new waiting room on the health centre’s second floor.


The building has been redecorated during the works which have been carried out to provide a better service to the community.


Local charities have been involved in the refurbishments led by ACHE, including Looe Lions, Polperro Fishermen’s Choir and West Looe Town Trust.

Pastures new for clergy The Rev Philip Sharp has been


appointed the priest-in-charge of St Martin’s and St Nicholas churches in Looe and St Wenna


Church in Morval. For the past five years he has served Liskeard and St Keyne as an assistant curate.


The scrolls list the type of boat, owners name and when the vessel was completed.


Museum curator Barbara Birchwood-Harper now hopes that people will view the displays and remember what names the vessels were given.
