Jackman brothers master conditions
The South West Enterprise and Mirror Championships were held in Looe recently.
Competitors travelled from as far afield as the North Midlands, and the weather provided some interesting sailing.
The Sunday of the event, in particular, brought some challenging conditions along with a number of capsizes and very competitive racing.
The Enterprise event was held over five races and was won by Looe Sailing Club brothers David and Chris Jackman, who managed to win three races and claim second in another to secure the overall prize.

Race officer Brian Carvey did an excellent job in challenging conditions, as did the safety boat crews. The Looe Club is hoping for an even larger fleet next year.
Rovers claim their first-ever Cup win
Downderry Rovers Vets overcame St Agnes Bolsters, 3-2, to win the Cornwall Veterans’ League Supplementary Cup.
Rovers were determined to avenge their defeats in the two previous years which saw them finish as runners-up.
Two goals from Neil Higson and one from Pete Cade had already done the damage for Downderry, before two late strikes from the Aggies set up a nail-biting finish at Boscawen Park, St Dennis
Lifeboat rescues canoeist
A canoeist was rescued by Looe’s Atlantic lifeboat recently after the alarm was raised by a concerned member of the public on the coast path, who spotted the man in difficulties off Polperro harbour.
The lifeboat, Alan and Margaret, was launched mid afternoon and the man, a 42-year-old from the Liskeard area, was found by the lifeboat crew in the water trying to swim ashore with his canoe.
Lifeboat operations manager David Haines said the man had been in the
L
water for 30 minutes before being spotted from the shore.
He said: ‘It was lucky he was spotted struggling as he had been in the water for quite a while and was very tired.
The south-easterly wind made for difficult conditions as there was a moderate swell. Fortunately, the man was uninjured.’
He was taken to Talland Bay beach where he was met by a Looe Coastguard team and given a quick medical check.
The lifeboat crew were Nick Pope, Toby Bray and Sam Pearson.
