Dear Aquila, A lot of people have been saying that animal testing should stop completely. I think that we shouldn’t test cosmetics on animals, but medicine testing should continue if it could stop epidemics. Also earlier this year, six men got critically ill after testing some medicine, so even humans suffer. I agree with Katy (Vol XIV,

4) that the government doesn’t do enough to stop global warming. Where I live you can only recycle newspaper and glass and sometimes they don’t even bother to collect it! Also people have been

writing in to argue about home education. I’m not home educated but I do think it’s annoying when people who haven’t been home educated say it’s rubbish. You would have to have been home educated before you could say it was good or bad. In response to Bethany

Pye’s letter (Vol XIV 4), I go to a private school and you get better one-to-one education. On the downside you get more homework (well I do anyway) and people call you ‘posh’. Just because I go to private school, doesn’t mean I’m posh! From Latika Rodway Anard

Dear Aquila, I love reading your magazine, it is great! I love the Finish the Story competitions. I think that home schooling can be

good or bad, it just suits some people. Please could you do an issue on

horses? They are amazing animals and can do so many things. I agree with Kathryn Pugh, The Silver

Sword by Ian Serrailler is an amazing book. In response to the debates on school

dinners, my school dinners are really nice and now we have a new ‘Salad Bar’ which is good for eating healthily. I love the Pen Friend Club page and Over to You as well as Brainfeeders. From Olivia Kold, age 11

P.S. Please can I say ‘Hi!’ to my pen friends, Sarah, Celeste and Lara.

Dear Aquila, I adore your magazine. The great thing about it is that you don’t just have one topic. You have competitions, quizzes, interviews, topics on different things etc., I always think it seems so long between each copy and when it finally comes I flick through the pages and read bits. The next day I read it properly. I was writing to ask if you could do a

‘Discussions of the month’ page where you told us (on that page) the next topic coming up and then readers could write and send in their views. From Even Nelson, age 10

Dear Aquila, My class and I were out on a school trip to do with geography and history in the middle of the city where I live. We were just walking along the pavement, which had the River Don next to it when our guide gave a shout. “Everyone, over here! Look!” he shouted. We all crowded round to see what was happening. “Wow” I cried, “it’s amazing!” my best friend asked, “What is it?” It was a heron. A heron is a really big bird, which you don’t often find in the city and we were walking down a crowded main road. We could see its long beak, which it uses to

last month’s topic of ‘Friends’. Next month’s topic will be ‘Stars’.

Dear Aquila, I have never written to you before. I go to boarding school in West Sussex. Most people think that boarding schools are bad, but mine is really nice. You do get homesick sometimes and you just want to be at home. The longest time I have been away from home is about two weeks. The teachers are really nice (well some of them!) and we have to share dorms with a minimum of three people and a maximum of 12. You get much longer holidays as well! From Elsa Court, age 10

Dear Aquila, We really liked your page about coral reefs (Vol XIII,10). The facts are so useful and the colours are très bien (very good). We get all your magazines every time they are out. You’re the best! From James, 9 and Salman, 9

My recommended books are: The Girls Book: How to Be the Best at Everything by Juliana Foster, has loads of tips about almost everything! The Roman Mysteries by Caroline Lawrence, a series of books about four children in Roman times … and they always get into trouble!

Yes, we do love to hear your news and views on the Over to you pages and sometimes we ask you to write in about a certain subject, e.g.

catch fish. It was standing very, very still watching the water - maybe to find fish. Unfortunately we didn’t get to see it catch a fish because we had to move on. From Katharina Bandmann

Dear Aquila, I agree with everyone who is disagreeing with Peter McIntyre, football is a sport for everyone. Could you do an issue on saving the planet? I agree with Camilla and

Catherine (Vol XIII, 12) the government isn’t doing enough for this planet! Could you do a few pages on animal testing so AQUILA readers can know why and where they do it, then some people might understand it more, because I don’t? I am a Brownie and I’m a Sixer, which I am proud of, I have 18

Brownie badges and it is fabulous fun. In reply to Emily Maw (Vol XIII,11) The Amazing Story of Adolphus

Tips is a World War II diary and is very interesting. Friendship is very important, otherwise this place would be higgledy-

piggledy and we would probably always argue with each other. From Kirsten Bishop, age 9

P.S. AQUILA is cool!
