News

New 3D film The fabulous new prehistoric adventure, the Sea Monsters 3D film, from the National Geographic, which opened on 20th October 2007, can be seen across all UK IMAX cinemas, bringing to life the extraordinary marine reptiles of the dinosaur age in the most spectacular photo-realistic three-dimensional format. One not to be missed!

Help save forests The Forest Stewardship Council (FSC) are here to help save and manage our forests. Did you know that an area of ancient forest the size of a football pitch is destroyed every two seconds! Does this mean you should stop using wood? NO! It means you should look out for the FSC logo (left) when you buy anything made from wood so that you know it comes from a managed source. To help save the forests FSC are running some competitions

for children aged 11-18 to write a rhyme or poem to remind people to look out for their logo. There is a poster competition for 7-11-year-olds and a photographic competition for all ages. So you could help to spread their message.

AQUILA is aimed at children between 8 and 13 years old but experience shows that both older and younger children enjoy many of the challenges. Some of the activities are more challenging than others and suitable for sharing with friends or family.

Quentin, age 12, from London says: ‘I’ve always loved anything about dinosaurs and this is about the monsters that lived in the sea in those days. It’s really awesome!’ Arthur, age 10, says: ‘You just can’t believe how really real they look!’

Just design a poster on A4 paper with clear

pictures and writing, write a poem or take a photo. The best ones will be used by the FSC to encourage people to choose FSC products. There are some great prizes too, including £100 worth of Marks and Spencer’s Vouchers for the best poster or poem. So use your skills and get writing, drawing or snapping photos! The closing date for entries is 10th December

2007. Send your entries to FSC UK, 11-13 Great Oak Street, Llanidloes, Powys, SY18 6BU, stating your name, age (at 31st December 2007) and address. Visit www.fsc-uk.org for full details.
