ack in 1979, before the fi rst SHOT Show, the National
Shooting Sports Foundation (NSSF) worried that industry professionals might not show up for its fl edgling event. T e trade association for the hunting and shooting sports needn’t have worried then, or now, about the vitality of its SHOT Show. T e 2011 SHOT Show
soared above expectations by setting records for buyer attendance at 31,769 and media attendance at 2,074. T e overall attendance of
57,390, comprising buyers, exhibitors, media and guests,

ranked the show as the third largest in its history, behind the 2008 and 2010 events. In this sluggish economy, the SHOT Show demonstrates the resilience of one of America’s oldest industries and the popularity of that industry’s products. T e SHOT Show, however, is
far more than an American trade show. It is the international crossroads for the worldwide industry, and the roster of exhibitors, attendees and media corps demonstrates that professionals from all over the world have discovered the value of the SHOT Show. “T e importance of
the SHOT Show to the fi rearm industry cannot be overestimated,” said Steve Sanetti, president and CEO of NSSF, which owns the trade show. “T e SHOT Show is simply the must-attend business event for all segments of our industry.” Filling the Sands Expo and
Convention Center in Las Vegas, Nevada, to capacity, with 1,600 exhibiting companies covering 660,000 square feet with their booths, SHOT Show brought together all facets of the $4 billion industry. Many companies use SHOT Show, the largest trade show of its kind in the world, to announce
new products and services. Buyers and media members are able to handle and discuss products that include fi rearms, ammunition, outdoor and tactical clothing, optics, knives, related accessories and law- enforcement equipment. Twenty-one countries,
besides the US, exhibited at this year’s SHOT Show, including pavilions housing companies from the UK, Spain, Germany and Italy. Industry members from China, Israel, Japan, Pakistan, Turkey and 16 other nations were among the international exhibitors. All told, 140 companies from outside the
