Alabama Lifesaver (Omniflight) to assist in transporting our most critical. Air Evac crews from Fayette, Alabama, Batesville, Mississippi, as well as Omniflight crews from Birmingham and Children’s Hospital all transported our transfers.”

Statewide Trauma System

The Trauma System was going to be put to the test. This horrific line of deadly tornados continued to rip it’s way through the state. Seemingly fol‐ lowing a path parallel to Interstate 20/59, its next point of mass destruc‐ tion were the communities of Pleasant Grove and Pratt City. Here too, the storm made no exceptions, destroying everything in its path. Reports have indicated the tornado tore a mile wide swath along 135 miles. Remarkably, a stronger, but more compact, storm system was marching its way through northwestern Alabama. Classified as a F5, this cell leveled parts of Hackleburg and Phil Campbell, Alabama. This, more rural, area of Alabama made for an even more challenging response. Region One of the Alabama Trauma System too, worked as designed and planned. Victims of the storm were triaged and transported to the appro‐ priate receiving hospitals in Florence, Muscle Shoals, Decatur and Huntsville.
