atford‟s Centralian Players will be hoping to steal the limelight this spring as they

perform witty comedy-thriller „Theft‟ on 19th, 20th and 21st May at Henderson Hall, Abbots Langley. Penned by Eric Chappell – the comic mastermind behind sitcom classics „Rising Damp‟ and „Duty Free‟ – „Theft‟ is a comic tour-de-force, packed with brilliant one-liners, great comedy characters, and sharp observations on marriage, money and crime. The action begins when childhood friends John

and Trevor return with wives Jenny and Barbara from an anniversary celebration, only to find John‟s house has been ransacked by burglars. A well-spoken police inspector, who isn‟t all he

seems, adds to the mayhem. And over the course of the evening, two seemingly happy marriages and one formerly strong friendship begin to unravel, as the accusations fly. Speaking at rehearsals, Director Wendy

Gardner said: “Theft is a play I‟ve wanted to do for a number

of years – it is well-written, very funny and the characters are just brilliant. Everyone will know a John, a Trevor, or a Jenny or a Barbara, and that‟s what really makes this play. It is often said that there is a fine line between comedy and tragedy, and all the characters are both comic and tragic, in their own ways. “The play has an excellent pedigree as the original production in the late 1990s featured

George Cole, Roy Hudd and Leslie Grantham. Rehearsals have been going really well and I know the actors and backstage crew will help put on a really great show. If you love comedy, it really is a fantastic night out – we‟d love to see you there.” „Theft‟ is being performed at 7.45pm on

Thursday 19th, Friday 20th and Saturday 21st May 2011 at Henderson Hall, High Street, Abbots Langley, WD5 0AR. Tickets are £7 (£5 students, under 16s and

senior citizens) and are available by calling Janet Thorpe on 01923 227 392, emailing tickets@thecentralians.co.uk or on the door (though please check availability in advance). Free parking is available locally.
