TOM ARMSTRONG PASSES Australian WCF Hall of Famer Tom Armstrong passed January 22, 2011 at the age of 102. He was in the first class inducted into the hall of fame. Starting in 1965, he was known for his tireless efforts to promote croquet in Australia and particularly the Southern Austra- lia area. Inspired by the MacRobertson Shield competition in 1969, Armstrong decided to introduce croquet to students at several Adelaide secondary schools. A regular weekly inter-school competition began involving up to 100 teenagers. From that competition, ten new players joined croquet clubs with several continuing on to win various tournaments. Armstrong was responsible for getting players such as Neil Spooner, Barrie Chambers, Mark Prater and Bill Smith started in the sport.
