WOOLSAFE NEWS SPRING/SUMMER 2011


Two decades after fi rst working on the WoolSafe programme Barbara Walker is back in the WoolSafe laboratory testing and approving quality products from our licensees.


Barbara is a most welcome addition to the technical staff . She has decades of experience in the fi eld of textile testing having worked for IWS, Wira and the Woolmark company.


Part of Barbara’s remit is to develop and expand WoolSafe carpet testing services to aid our Carpet Inspectors in their investigations into carpet complaints and to test the increas- ing number of samples being sent to the lab for tests such as appearance retention, colour loss, clarifying specifi cation and optical eff ects such as pile fl attening and photobleaching.


As WoolSafe’s relationship with retailers grows through our recent marketing strategies, so too have our dealings with them. Although carpet testing is not our core business it allows us to off er a ‘one stop solution’ to all our partners’ needs and Barbara’s experience and input in this area will be a great boon to the organisation’s development.


Barbara worked from 1986 to 1995 with WoolSafe Chairman, Paul Bakker in the Carpet Testing Laboratory at the Interna- tional Wool Secrateriat in Ilkley back in the days when WoolSafe was fi rst launched, so she knows all about WoolSafe test methods

and protocols. Fortunately Barbara was able to move straight into our refurbished laboratory and organise it to suit her working methods and routine.


All the staff at WoolSafe extend a warm welcome and look forward to a long and successful future together.
