Philosophy instructor Dr. Darien Ripple created the 16-credit certifi cate program at CGCC, the fi rst of its kind in the Southwestern U.S. The program includes classes such as Environmental Ethics, Economics of Natural Resources, Population and the Environment, Nature and Environmental Literature and Environmental Biology.
Twenty-three students have completed the program since it began in January 2009.
“The advantage of this certifi cate is that it promotes a multidisciplinary approach to sustainability and realizes ecological literacy can be enhanced through hands-on experiences,” says Ripple.
CGCC is located at 2626 E. Pecos Rd. in Chandler. For more information about the program, visit
