Writers Unite to Fight Cancer offers a free Youth Writing Workshop for kids ages 9 and older from 2 to 4 p.m. Thu., June 2 at the A+ Book Fairs Warehouse in Gilbert.


The workshop will feature hands-on, interactive writing exercises on dialogue, plot and setting.


Workshop instructors include authors Janette Rallison of Chandler, Angela Morrison of Mesa and Lisa Finder of Gilbert. A portion of all books sold at the event will benefi t the Adam McCain Medical Expense Fund to help raise money for Adam McCain, a 4-year-old Mesa boy with acute lymphoblastic leukemia.

“The Park Our Town Built,” will be read by its illustrator, Gilbert resident Tanja Bauerle, at 10 a.m. Sat., May 14 at Changing Hands Bookstore.


Published by Raven Tree Press, written by Diane Gonzales Bertrand and illustrated by Bauerle, the book uses vocabulary recognition and matching pictures to text to help young readers gain confi dence in both comprehension skills and predicting a sequence of events.


Bridal Show seeks vendors


Vendors are sought for the fi rst Chandler Gilbert Bridal Show, held from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. Sat., July 9 at Noah’s multiuse facility in Chandler. The event, presented by JL Productions, LLC, features local wedding-related businesses, a beauty-health room and a bride pampering area, and groom’s lounge, as well as raffl e prizes such as a year’s gym membership and a photo booth wedding package valued at $1,100.
