My mother’s love has nourished my family and I over countless years. Through years of turmoil when her heart must have been breaking, her love persevered and kept us whole. Over the last few years, she has been battling several cancers. Even when all hope seemed to be shattered by despair, she always clung to the small glimpse of hope. When my father was deployed to Iraq as an Army chaplain, she was the strong, foundational pillar of my family. Through thick or thin, I always know that she’s there for me, and I thank God for giving me the best mother in the world. Jinah Kim
Runner-up: Dora Ducote, Lagos Vistosos Valerie Nikolaus, Alma School Place when I am down.

My mama is soft and takes good care of me. She helps me with my homework and gives me prizes if I get 100 percent on my spelling test. My mama is a teacher at my school. We get to see each other every day at lunch. She makes me yummy pizza and lets me play the Wii. I love her because she gives me treats.

Paula Rabens, Arizona Estates Gabby says: My mom is amazing because she works and attends school to be a nurse and still has time to be the best mom in the world. She has taught me responsibility by being a good role model. She is so patient as she teaches me to drive. She always knows what to say to cheer me up
I would like to nominate a friend of mine for her courageous battle with stress, health and personal hardships over the last year who still has risen above by faith to pursue her passion in people and business. Victoria has experienced many hardships, including a car accident that left her paralyzed in a wheelchair for life. She has head and arm movement only, and with help of others’ creativity, she is able to use a typing tool to type on a computer. Amazingly enough, Victoria is a mother of two children: Daniel and Sara, both in their teens. Victoria is passionately pursuing a home business. She is one strong, inspiring, courageous woman. Michelle Messner, Gilbert My friend, Michelle, is a single, full-time working mom of twin boys, Jake and Jamie. Jamie was born with cerebral palsy and is confi ned to a wheelchair. Michelle is cafeteria manager at Burk Elementary in Gilbert where the boys attend school. She is at work each morning by 6:15. Michelle has to lift Jamie, who weighs 75 pounds, in and out of her van for all activities. Jamie has had numerous surgeries, including bilateral hip replacement, cord release surgery, two eye muscle surgeries and is scheduled for his second bilateral hip surgery this summer. Michelle never expresses her situation as being diffi cult. I didn’t realize the need and care required of a child with CP. I hope you will consider this mom as an exceptional person who never complains. Mary Beth Woods
Jamie Pitts-Klayman, Chandler My mom should get this award because she is simply the best mom in the world. She takes care of me when I am sick or in trouble. She is the kindest, warmhearted, caring mom. Looking into my mom’s eyes is the best remedy to make this kid better. I would ask that you put a smile on my face so I can say to my mom that you are simply the most awesome, coolest, helpful mom in the entire world. So after 10 fantastic years, it’s my turn to say thank you, Mom, you are the best. Anthony Ryan Zapata
Karen Wilson, Phoenix, works in Chandler
My mom is a positive, highly energetic and generous woman. She is the only person I know who can accomplish so many things in such a small span of time. While other moms might be recognized for taking care of the family, my mom goes ten times beyond with never-ending energy and such enthusiasm for life. She is there lending the caring ear, offering the sincerest advise, and giving a helping hand in the most unselfi sh manner. She is my best friend, and is deserving of recognition for all that she has done, and for all that she is. Angela Thomas
