Chandler’s Interim City Manager Rich Dlugas will likely drop the temporary title he’s held for nearly a year and take over as city manager, pending a fi nal vote by the Chandler City Council Mon., May 9.


Dlugas, who has been serving as the acting city manager since June 2010 following the retirement of former manager Mark Pentz, has been in the running with four other individuals for the position. According to Public Information Offi cer Jane Poston, the Council is scheduled to discuss the terms of a contract for a new city manager in Executive Session early next week. If discussions are successful, the contract, naming Dlugas as city manager, will be placed on the agenda of the Thu., May 12 Council meeting.


“Rich Dlugas has proven to be a tremendous asset to the City of Chandler, particularly over the past ten months,” says Mayor Jay Tibshraeny. “I’m confi dent that his professionalism and management skills will help to guide Chandler through the next stage of our city’s development.”


Dlugas has worked for the City of Chandler for 17 years, most recently as assistant city manager since March 2002. Before that he served as Chandler’s community services director, beginning in October 1994. Prior to coming to Chandler, he was the director of Parks and Recreation for the City of Denton, TX and assistant director of Parks and Recreation for the City of Plano, TX.


He is a member of both the International City Manager’s Association and the Arizona City Managers Association. Dlugas holds a bachelor’s degree and master’s degree in Parks and Recreation Administration from Illinois State University, Normal, IL.


City seeks budget input


Chandler residents have an opportunity to comment on the City’s proposed 2011-12 budget and 10-year Capital Improvement Program (CIP) at May and June meetings.


A budget amendment discussion with the City Council takes place Mon., May 23; tentative budget adoption by the City Council is on Thu., May 26; and a public hearing regarding adoption of the fi nal 2011-12 budget, the 2012-21 CIP and the 2011-12 tax levy is held Thu., June 9.


All meetings begin at 7 p.m. at the Chandler City Council Chambers, 88 E. Chicago St.


The City’s proposed budget is available for review at www.chandleraz.gov/budget, at the Downtown Chandler Library, 22 S. Delaware St. and at the City Clerk’s Offi ce, 175 S. Arizona Ave.
