Private View March 25th 2011 Dartmoor- Landscapes inspired by Light Oil paintings by Fiona Waddy
FIONA Waddy’s exhibition opened with a very well attended private view on 25th March and continued to attract large numbers of visitors throughout the Arts Festival. From the outset there was great interest in the paintings and a real buzz of excitement in this local Artist’s work, with nearly a quarter of the works selling within the first couple of hours. People who know the moors well were able to recognise many of the vistas and subtle scenes Fiona has discovered with her refreshing and faithful style.
Fiona Waddy is going to be an artist to watch as she expands her portfolio of scenes of the moor. Her landscape paintings have substance and skill and draw the viewer into them. You can enjoy looking at them again and again, seeing more in the work each time you look. Her love of the moor and her supreme technical skill in using light and shade to capture all the varied moods of
Dartmoor will definitely make her a highly sought after artist. Several viewers have commented that she has refreshingly captured the drama of Dartmoor including the glorious moments and the unexpected compositions we come across as we walk and drive around Dartmoor and its surroundings.
Particular attention was paid to
some of the winter scenes of the sun rising across a glistening and glowing Dartmoor, the snow and frost gently emerge from the canvas as the paintings absorb your attention, Fiona clearly relishes every moment on the moor, every change in the light, every day of progress through the seasons.
exhibition was the variety of scale, Fiona’s skill is clearly evident whether the canvas is four feet high or only ten inches wide, many of the smaller paintings proving as popular as the large and impressive works.
I am sure that those who have become proud owners of one of her paintings from this exhibition will be rewarded with a work they will truly come to love and cherish for many years to come. We look forward greatly to her next exhibition.
