At the April meeting the group were updated about the MOD pro- posals for decommissioned nuclear sub- marines. There will be an exhibition in Plymouth this autumn, so the public can consider the suggestion that the nuclear re- actors may be cut up in the dockyard. See www.submarinedismantling.co.uk . The group were also reminded that it is 25 years since the disaster at Chernobyl. The children of Belarus continue to suffer the effects of the radioactive fallout. Thyroid cancer has risen by more than 100 times in the worst affected parts of Belarus. Two million people live on seriously contami- nated land.
