behind the manufacture of coatings under the banner of the International Certificate in Coatings Technology (ICCT). The ICCT is a fully supported, modular and flexible training programme for peo- ple with an interest in coatings technology and application. Covering all aspects of surface coat- ings technology at different levels of expertise, the material is delivered via the internet and with current interest from students in Qatar, South Africa, Mainland Europe and Eire, it is being accessed by students all over the world making it a truly International qualification.

Derek Rodd, a training and development specialist for the coatings industry, has been appointed to ensure that these courses are continuously updated and are appropriately accredited within the UK and beyond.
In these challenging times, the Government is looking to manufacturing to help revive the country’s economy. Proskills is the Sector Skills Council for the Coatings Industry responsible for ensuring that the right frameworks exist to support skills investment and, with their support, the Government is backing Apprenticeships.
With the above in mind and in response to the Leitch report, which concluded that the "work- force employed in the UK Coatings Industry is an ageing workforce where qualification levels are low", the BCF has worked with Proskills to help produce an "Apprenticeship Framework", based on the BCF distance learning modules.

The objective of this Apprenticeship Framework is to offer companies an unparalleled way to attract and develop the best young people into the coatings industry with Apprenticeships being available at Levels 2, 3 and 4. The Level 4 qualification is also available as part of the Government funded Joint Investment Programme (JIP).
