Building God’s House

Looking back over the last 12 months we have much to thank the Lord for as he has continued to build his house through the growing partnership and deve lopment s between Christchurch and St George’s. These development s have moved forwards with the support of the wider deanery and diocese and are working well on the ground locally.

Great Potential for God’s Kingdom

In terms of what is happening now, we give thanks for the help of Peter Hart at Christ Church where his ministry is hugely appreciated. Mike Mills has been a great appointment as the operations manager for the social projects. There is great potential for partnership with youth, seniors and working with the needy in our community in the name of Christ. Our staff team have been get ting involved in some of the Christ Church activities as well as some members of King’s Café.

A Sending Church

This last year has seen a flurry of activity in terms of individuals and families pursuing God’s call into ordained ministry and overseas missionary work so that we have become a sending church. We give th an k s for Ma r k Thomson, Peter Weeks,

through Christ Church and St George’s — Stamford May 2011 Rectors Report 2011

Lynda Davis, Martin Purnell, Les Batty, Simon Kaye and Andrew and Kate Kennedy. This raises the issue of not only replacement, but the need to sustain and grow more leaders. This is partly behind the theme for this year of growing disciples.

Growing Disciples in 2011

We have a vision for mature Christians to m e n t o r y o u n g e r Chr i s t ians through intentional one to one Bible Study and prayer. The aim is for this to become part of the DNA of the church. This will d e v e l o p s p i r i t u a l disciplines, Christian character and maturity and equip others to teach and serve as they grow in knowledge. I will preach on this for three sermons in May to launch the idea. The aim will be to grow existing leaders and grow more leaders across the ministries of the church. This is not a magic fix but a long term strategy.

Margaret Chirico

Discipleship moves on and Margaret Chirico announced that having had a wonde r ful opportunity to serve God’s people at St George’s and to extend care out into the community she has decided to work towards retirement at the end of 2011. Margaret will reduce to two days a

week from the end of July and be working with all her various teams to ensure continuation of care after she has officially retired. I will look to develop a Care sub group to oversee cradle to the grave ministries and build on what Margaret has es tabl ished working across both CC and St G’s. I and the whole of St George’s are very grateful to Margaret for her love and care over many years and we will have opportunity towards the end of the year to honour Margaret in an appropriate way.

BGH in 2011

I will be licensed officially at Christ Church on June 15th

and my hopes for this

year are a growing partnership at every level. (Wardens, PCC’s, KC teams, involvement in social projects, younger families helping to seed Christ Church on a Sunday, reconnection with Christian youth ministry and QE). One of the ways of growing the partnership will be to grow the ongoing money course into a full CAP c e n t r e i f o u r investigations reveal that there is sufficient need in the town and we will be looking carefully at this.

Thanks

Looking at the written report for the AGM there is so much to give thanks to God for and so many people to thank who are serving in so many ways. Thanks to Anne Jewels for faithfully collating everything and gently

encouraging us all to add our contributions.

Finally I would like to thank Ian Fytche and Martin Fox for their great support as wardens and especially to Ian who is stepping aside after two years as warden. Please pray for Ian as he serves Christ as Chief Executive of North Kesteven District Council and all the responsibilities that fall on his shoulders, particularly in these challenging times. I am pleased to welcome Steve Burnett as the new Warden alongside Martin and look forward to working with them and all of God’s people here at St George’s and in partnership with Christ Church.
