Black Eyed Peas Perform at Halftime Show: Varsity Sports for the Mind
submitted by Lisa Haswell How many high school varsity sports do you know of that have the Black Eyed Peas play at halftime? US FIRST hosted its 20th championship games in St. Louis, MO, and Windham Windup was invited. By securing the Rookie All-Star Award at the Granite State Regionals in March, the team from Windham High School was honored to travel to St. Louis to participate with over 350 teams from 17 countries in the Edward Jones Dome and America’s Center. Adding to the excitement was the addition of two new members of US FIRST: will.i.am
and Morgan Freeman.

concert by the Black Eyed Peas added to the excitement. Members of FIRST Robotics Team 3467 Windham Windup worked from 7 a.m. to past 9 p.m. every day, fine-tuning the robot, meeting
other teams to form alliances, as well as actually competing. They had great success, being one of the few robots that had 100-percent success deploying their mini-bot. With the end of 2011 build season, the team has now turned its efforts to intensive fundraising, rebuilding the robotic arm, Website development, animation, and recruiting for next year’s team. “It’s very exciting,” said Principal Tom Murphy, who described the team as “an

submitted by S. Aaron Shamshoyan For Ryan Carr, a perfect match usually equates to something that happens on a wrestling mat. While pursuing his degree in physical education, Ryan was on the Plymouth State University (PSU) wrestling team, earning recognition as a three-time NCAA Scholar All- American. As the varsity wrestling coach at Salem High School, Ryan has mentored 18 state and regional championship- winning student athletes The last place you’d think to find Ryan is at an ice arena. However, when

Ryan learned about the possibility of naming a space in the new PSU Welcome Center and Ice Arena, his first thought was, “How can I do this?” Ryan’s experiences as a student-athlete were transformative and it was important for him to show his support. “My feeling is that you have to give back to something that gave you so much,” he says. After researching
his options, he found that his employer, Northwestern Mutual, had a matching gift program. “Once I realized that my employer would match my gift, dollar for dollar, it became a no-brainer.” As a financial representative, Ryan understands the importance of building a secure future. “Invest in the things you care about, the things that change your life,” he says. “When I look at everything PSU has done, I’m proud to be involved. When PSU is ready to build a new wrestling room, I better be the first person they call!”

Most business owners expect to work long hours and make many sacrifices in order to see their companies and employees grow. Individuals who embrace work in non-profit agencies and charitable organizations very often place the mission before their own comfort. None of them do it for recognition or praise – they do it because of who they are. They are your neighbors, friends, business associates and family members.
Enterprise Bank’s Celebration of Excellence was launched to publicly recognize and honor those individuals that you nominate who demonstrate an entrepreneurial spirit, hard work, dedication, perseverance, and commitment to their organizations and communities.
