Award- winning cuisine at the Copper Hen

Bridgestone Guide award- winning chef Eugene Long has seen his new business venture The Copper Hen go from strength to strength in recent months.

Located above Mother McHugh’s pub in Fenor, the restaurant is already noted for its use of only the best in local produce and its relaxed, family-friendly atmosphere. It’s an ideal venue for christenings, communions, confi rmations or for a quiet meal with a loved one and with an award- winning chef at your service, it doesn’t get much better than that.

Also just a stone’s throw away from the Copper Coast Geopark, it makes the ideal stop off point for a bite to eat while travelling the spectacular coast road.

Starters range from a very reasonable €4.50 to €8.50 with an array of dishes to choose from including a pressed terrine of Fenor Farm ham-hock with an apple and fresh sage chutney to Seafood chowder. Mains are priced from a €14 slow roast belly of Fenor Farm pork on sautéed potatoes with roasting and sage jus to a very reasonable €19 sirloin of Irish beef on champ potatoes with pepper sauce or garlic and roast shallot butter.

A former head chef in Coast and chef/ proprietor Banyan in Tramore, Eugene’s culinary talents didn’t go unnoticed with the Bridgestone Guide describing Eugene’s food as ‘Delicious, faultless and punching way above its weight’. Georgina Campbell was another big fan of his work and described it as ‘fresh and interesting’ while ‘deserts include variations on classics’.

What’s also great about the Copper Hen is that they take care of you getting home, with their special discounted taxi rates. It’s just €20 per couple going to or from Waterford including suburbs, €25 up to four people with two round town drops and groups up to eight for €30.

The Copper Hen is relaxed, casual and good fun dining experience providing good food, locally sourced, at value for money prices. The Copper Hen is open for dinner Thursday to Saturday from 5.30pm and for Sunday lunch from 12.30pm. In June they will also be opening for lunch Thursday to Sunday from 12.30pm, where you can sample their new summer menu. They also serve dinner from 6pm every Bank Holiday Sunday.
