Racing to support Ugandan orphans Phil Chappell looks forward to the Ilkley Trail Race on Monday 30 May
L
iving in the well-heeled and picturesque town of Ilkley it is great for us to be linked with a rural village in Uganda and to be helping give orphans and needy children a hope for the future. This hope comes from being cared for, loved and educated at the Revival Centre in Matugga run by our friend Pastor Ivan Lugoloobi who has visited the Harriers in June the last two years. This year we are
trying to get as many people as possible from our local churches to organise and staff the race so that as many Harriers as possible can run the race. So please put the date in your race diary now and bring your friends, let’s have a record turn out! If you have any race T-shirts that you don’t use that are in good nick we will be collecting them for the kids in Matugga on race day as we did two years ago. It’s great for me as a Harrier to go to Matugga in the middle of Africa and see kids running around sporting shirts from all our local races. As you know providing water, sanitation, food and basic medical care is critical to ensuring the children survive to complete their education and obtain skills for life at the Centre. The money raised at last year’s Trail Race funded the construction of a much needed composting toilet block

(photo above). I will think of you all fondly when I am using it on my next visit to the Centre between 10 and 28 April. It is a real blessing.
The enjoyment and family atmosphere at the Trail Race has been wonderful to be surrounded by and we pray for good weather again this year. Lawrence and Jemma Basham are already working hard on this year’s race and we are so grateful
