Branchburg-based band Fade- light performed at an American Red Cross benefit concert on March 26 at Tumulty’s Pub in New Brunswick near the College Avenue campus. About 100 people attended, raising over $1,100 for the American Red Cross of Greater Somerset County.

Besides raising funds, the benefit helped raise awareness about the work of the Red Cross and the chapter’s “Voices for Heroes” initiative, in partnership with SharetheMic, an organization that helps emerging young musicians connect themselves and their fans to humanitarian organizations like

the Red Cross.

Since 2007, the Somerset Coun- ty chapter has sheltered close to 3,000 people affected by disasters, trained over 12,000 people in life- saving skills annually, provided 24/7 emergency communication services for military members and their families and supportive ser- vices to both active duty military members and veterans, and sup- ported the collection of thousands of units of blood. All of this work is not possible without generous donations from the public. —info and photo provided by Jessica Alfrey of the Red Cross
