thursday 9 Broken Bells Whenever you combine two largely talented musicians, great things are bound to happen and this year when Danger Mouse got together with The Shins’ James Mercer, exactly that occurred. Broken Bells emerged with their experimental indie rock. Their super awesome hits “The High Road” and “The Ghost Inside” blew up the airwaves and nearly destroyed our iPod’s repeat function in 2010. Their whole self-titled first album was incredible and left us eagerly anticipating a follow up. Do not miss this show. 8pm, Crystal Ballroom.

friday 10 KINK FM’s K Jingle Bell Jam ‘Tis the season for giving, and Portland’s KINK FM is giving music fans an incredible lineup of acts for their annual holiday benefit concert for The Portland Police Sunshine Division, which is a non-profit emergency food relief organization. Michael Franti & Spearhead return to Oregon with their rockin’ reggae grooves. Classic rock band the Doobie Brothers and legendary songwriter Leon Russell also perform. The concert also features a silent auction with signed guitars and ukuleles from artists, including Sheryl Crow, Keane and more. 7pm, Roseland Theater.
saturday 11 Tame Impala, Stardeath and White
Dwarfs Any show at the Doug Fir Lounge is likely a good bet, and this weekend is no exception. Tame Impala is a highly buzzed-about psychedelic rock band from Australia, whose trippy, spiraling tunes are reminiscent of the ‘70s yet with an innovative edge. From what we’ve heard, this is going to be a band to watch in the coming years, so catch them at this great venue while you can. Stardeath and White Dwarfs play experimental pop and rock, and have one of the best band names we’ve seen in a while. 9pm, Doug Fir Lounge.
sunday 12 Badly Drawn Boy English alternative music singer/songwriter known as Badly Drawn Boy (which is the stage name of Damon Gough) gained commercial success in 2002 with his soundtrack to the film About A Boy. Badly Drawn Boy plays melodic rock-pop that fits in nicely in the Northwest music scene, and is well worth a listen. 9pm, Doug Fir Lounge.
