Katelyns Escape from Ordinary Radio

Photos and Text By: Katelyn Peters

“The new red and black radio represents 88.3 and the old brown radio represent the ordinary radio.”

CRAFT:

For these illustrations I started out my scanning my drawing into the computer. Then placed it into a folder along with a new AI document. Once the drawing was placed into AI document I used the pen tool to first add a white background then made it invisible as I did the other shapes that were being traced. I started out by tracing the biggest part of my drawing then added layers on top of it to make for clean lines. The paint brush tool was used to add things like the scratches on the radio and the text tool for the radio stations. To make the ordinary radios eyes the slice tool was used to cut through the copied layer of the eyeball to then reveal the white coloring behind it.

CONCEPT:

The concept is the escape from ordi- nary radio. The new red and black radio represents 88.3 and the old brown radio represent the ordinary radio. The ordinary radio is all beat up and has dull colors, the expression on his face also adds to his lack-luster un-special demeanor. The SXU 88.3 radio is escaping the ordinary old radio to head on over to SXU’s radio. This is shown by him running in the other direction with a suitcase in its hand. He also has a more vibrant exciting high-tech look to him compared to the dingy ordi- nary radio he is leaving behind.
