CONSERVATORIESEXTRA NETWORKING AT ITS BEST FROM CONSERVATORY OUTLET


Fourteen Conservatory Outlet dealers from across the UK were united under one roof as the fabricator hosted its 2011 Dealer Conference on Tuesday 12th April.


New and established customers alike gathered at Waterton Park Hotel in


Wakefield for a day of presentations and discussions about how their supplier will ensure their success during a time when ‘there is bound to be casualties’ in the industry.


Since the last conference, held at the beginning of 2010, seven established and reputable installers have joined Conservatory Outlet; the UK’s fastest growing network of window, door and conservatory retailors.


Matthew Glover, managing director of Conservatory Outlet, opened proceedings by telling the audience what they perhaps didn’t want to hear – that the market for windows, doors and conservatories continues to decline, that there is overcapacity at every stage of the supply chain, and that the good old days are not coming back.


Easier listening followed though as Glover, sales director Greg Kane and


a number of guest speakers outlined how Conservatory Outlet has put itself and its customers in pole position to not only survive, but to prosper in such a competitive marketplace.


Marketing guru Simon Iredale highlighted the importance of ‘being remarkable’ and building a strong brand, while Elaine Berry of the Energy Saving Trust talked about the good work done by the EST and explained how Conservatory Outlet dealers could benefit from becoming a retail member.


Greg Kane gave a presentation about how installers can ‘sweat the asset’


and establish new revenue streams into their business with relatively minor investment, before Steve Williams of RPS RoofWright gave a live demonstration of the company’s latest conservatory visualisation and pricing software.


Guests were also introduced to the Solidor range of timber core composite doors by Solidor MD, Gareth Mobley. Conservatory Outlet is now in the process of integrating Solidor Composite Doors into its product range following the very positive reaction.


The finale spot was given to Dan Gill of Window Widgets who gave the audience a sneak-preview of a fantastic new product that he is currently developing, but not before Matthew Glover had the chance to give an impassioned talk about the advantages and opportunities presented by triple glazing, and the very leftfield route to market that his team are working on.


At the end of the day Greg Kane admitted that the audience had been ‘bombarded’ with information, but that the conference had been a ‘huge success’. Richard Manser, MD of the Kidderminster-based Conservatory Outlet dealer, 5 Star Windows & Conservatories, certainly agreed; ‘Events like this are vital as they keep us ahead of the game in a very competitive market.’


‘Sometimes you’re so busy working in your own area that you can forget about the bigger picture. But when you’re at a networking event like this, speaking and listening to forward-thinking people, it inspires you and gives you plenty of fresh ideas.’


More informal and light-hearted conversations took place in the evening over drinks and a three course meal, as faces were put to names and many valuable contacts we made.


Matthew Glover concluded; ‘The whole of the Conservatory Outlet network


is much greater than the sum of its parts and events like the Dealer Conference are necessary to facilitate the exchange of ideas and opinions so that we can move forward as one.’
