Spotlight on Brixworth

by Louise Kingham

Approximately seven miles north of Northampton and situated just off the A508, lies one of Northamptonshire’s largest villages – BRIXWORTH.

Famously known for its pate, but with a great deal more to offer, Brixworth is a fantastic place to visit. With a variety of local businesses including a fine selection of shops, restaurants, takeaways and pubs, Brixworth has greatly expanded over the years. Never theless, amongst the modern housing that now exists you will find the old part of the village which still contains a number of delightful thatched cottages built from local ironstone.

There cannot be many English villages which can boast to having three watering holes, but nestled within these beautiful cottages and, all well worth a visit, you will find…The Coach and Horses, The Red Lion and The George. On top of the hill, towering over the

beautiful village of Brixworth is the most wonderful example of early Anglo-Saxon architecture – ALL SAINTS’ CHURCH. Built around 680 AD, many come to view the stunning architecture and historical artefacts within its walls.

BRIXWORTH COUNTRY PARK, with its spectacular views, is a very popular attraction. Here you will find clearly marked out hard-surfaced trails around Pitsford Reservoir and through its woodlands and meadows, designated picnic and BBQ areas, children’s play and activity areas, bird hides for the nature lovers and a sensory garden. Makes for a great day out for everyone! And finally, why not complete your visit to this fascinating village by raising a glass to Brixworth’s very own

vineyard – FLEUR FIELDS, situated at ‘Hill Farm House’. Contact Flora and Bill Hulme who will only be too happy to let you taste their locally produced still and sparkling wines. (www.fleurfields.co.uk)
