continued from page 4 with the Lord, have the presence of fruit in

their lives, and the tools necessary for their calling. If someone cannot endure the heat of assessment they will not be able to endure the trials of the mission field or of planting a church. Spiritual disaster awaits anyone unwilling to be evaluated. Significant discoveries occurred dur-

ing this time of official and casual contact. Several of the candidates were amazed as their vision took shape and developed right before their eyes. The assessors listened to their convictions, principles, and core val- ues. They shared how they planned to make disciples and grow spiritual leaders. The process was helping the assessment team to make sure that a decision would not be made on appearance rather than ability. It is hard work to make sure that endorsements are given based on substance not just image. Thirty hours of observation were most

beneficial to the assessment process, but the relationships that were built between all involved were priceless. We laughed and cried together, but more importantly we got to know one another on a much more intimate level. New friendships were made between the candidates that will help them to have a solid support team for whatever they attempt or wherever they go. Even the candidates praised the process. There is not a perfect 100 percent guaranteed process for assessment, but this weekend helped us take a giant step in the right direction.

Listen to the testimonies of those involved:

“The weekend was well organized and

structured to give wonderful insights for the missionary couples and the assess- ment team.” James Schoenrock, Former Executive Director of Missions, Chairman of the Advisory Committee, and Pastor

“I was impressed with how thorough

the assessment process was. The ex- change of ideas and opinions among assessors contributed to a well-balanced assessment of each candidate.” David Dickson, Career Missionary for the BMAA

“Fifteen years ago the Lord allowed

me to be assessed by DCPI in San Diego before going to plant a church. That process was used by the Lord to prepare me and change my life dramatically... I can say without reservation that this was the most effective and uplifting assessment process that I have witnessed since San Diego.” John Smith, Advisory Committee Member, Pastor, and former church planter

“The assessment weekend was one of

the greatest experiences I have had since I surrendered in the ministry. It was great to be part of it.” Darrin Smith, Church Planter and Advisory Committee Member

“It has been a very tiring process to

go through, but it has been great!” Missionary candidate

“Overall, we really feel that we

learned a lot more about ourselves and we feel better prepared to do the work God has called us to do.” Church

planter candidate n 6 theGLEANER n May/June 2011
