Art at Durlston

great variety of creative workshops, installations and exhibitions so far at Durlston, with an exciting new arts programme.

W

Our arts partner ‘Artsreach’ is helping us develop a range of opportunities for artists and makers to exhibit and share their work with the 250,000+ people a year who visit Durlston, through a programme of residencies, workshops and installations.

New facilities will include an on-site studio, funded by the Arts Council, high quality cinema and sound systems, a space for outdoor performance, as well as a new Gallery space and Learning Centre.

The opening exhibition, planned for September and October 2011 will be ‘The Jurassic Journey’ – a multimedia celebration of the Jurassic Coast. Featuring pictures and film by International Wildlife Photographer of the Year Ben Osborne, poetry by Wimbledon poet Matt Harvey, music by Sammy Hurden and sculpture by Lal Hitchcock, the show looks to be a real treat. It will also include opportunities for the public and schools to get creative and see their own work exhibited.

In addition to our programme of curated work, we are also offering artists

and Guaranteed for 25 years. Government pay 43.3p (April 2011) for each kWh you produce independent of its use. Next year the Feed-in Tariff is planned to fall.

You use this electric either at your property or export it to the grid. Your electric supplier either pays you a Grid export value of 3.1p per kWh(April 2011) or you gain a property usage value, say 12p kWh, by using what your array produces and not buying it from your supplier. This part actually reduces your electric bill.

An example of application

If we use a 2.3 kW peak solar array as an example at an ideal angle and orientation. Noting all financial figures are based on today’s rates and include vat.

2.3kw Peak Array = 1917 kWh per annum (on an average solar year) = an annual value return of £1060.00 if all generation was used at the property, or £889.00 if you export all generation to the grid.

So what does it cost for a roof mounted 2.3 kW Solar array installation?

It depends on roof type/structure and condition of current electrical system, but could cost from £8000.00 for Chinese/Asian system or £8500.00 for a European system.

So to sum up!

The initial investment could be paid back in less than 8 years. If electric prices increase then time taken to repay the investment would also reduce.

A Bright Year For Solar Energy! F

eed-in tariffs up & Cost of installation down. How the numbers work!

New payments and Value. Government payments are R.P.I linked

This is clearly not a short term investment, but if you are being part of a green idea and still would like a financial return from 10% up to 13% per annum then this could be for you.

ork at the Castle is well on course for an early September opening, with most of the major structural work now complete.

As part of the Durlston Project, we hope to build on the

and makers the opportunity to sell their work in the spectacular Fine Foundation Gallery. Applications are invited in any medium – our panel will be selecting the first series of selling exhibitions in early June, so if you are interested in exhibiting, or would like to find out more, please email durlston@dorsetcc.gov.uk
