By Chris Maza Reminder Assistant Editor

LONGMEADOW – Bay Path College will host its 16th annual Women’s Leadership Conference (WLC) on April 29 from 7:30 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. at the MassMutual Center in Springfield. This year’s theme is The Power of Choice, with keynote speakers Victoria Kennedy, Alison Levine and Wes Moore. Kennedy was late Massachusetts U.S. Senator Edward Kennedy’s closest confidante in politics and life. Their marriage in 1992 brought

together two people with a passion to improve the lives of Americans, particularly through health care reform legislation. This dream was realized on March 21, 2010 with the passage of the Patient Protection and Affordable Care Act. For 17 years, Vicki Kennedy

had been deeply involved in Edward Kennedy’s legislative and political life, including working with him on his memoir, True Compass. She is the co-founder and a

heart condition that precluded the most basic of activities, she had surgery that changed her life. Soon, she was able to climb stairs, and that small feat eventually gave way to climbing mountains. “The Other Wes Moore: One Name, Two Fates,” a memoir of two black men with two different paths in life. Both were born in Maryland, lived in nearby Baltimore neighborhoods, and were raised by single mothers in fatherless homes. By the time they were 11 years old, both had been handcuffed by police. But here their lives divides based on the choices they made. The author went on to achieve incredible personal and professional success, and the other Wes Moore is now serving a life sentence in prison. Seeking to help young people to redirect their lives, Moore uses this story to advocate for the ownership of personal responsibility and positive roles education and community play for a generation of boys searching for their way.
