Home in Frome
SHOP TALK Oral History, sound walk, exhibition, Home Cinema and graffiti art.
Visit the Home in Frome Shop, 20 Paul Street, on the high pavement.
SHOP TALK is a collection of memories and stories from local shop- keepers and shoppers, who remember what shopping was like from the 1940s to the present day. Catherine Hill was a bustling area with no less than seven butchers, green-grocers and bakers. You could buy two nails in a twist of paper and nothing came pre-packaged! Collect an MP3 player and map from the Home in Frome Shop; walk round the town, and let us transport you to a by-gone era. The Home in Frome Shop is open from 10am to 4pm daily during the Festival.
Frome Open Studios
ARTISTS OPEN THEIR STUDIOS FOR AN EXTRAVAGANZA OF CREATIVITY Sat/Sun 09/10 July and Sat/Sun 16/17 July 11am – 5pm
Meet over 35 local artists and experience an eclectic mix of skills. Each year the event grows in popularity and welcomes many new artists with something different and exciting to show. All venues are open for the first weekend of the festival but some will be closing for the second; check full details of opening times in the Trail Map. This year the Free Trail Map will be found in the Festival edition of The List, which is available from key locations around town or it can be downloaded from
www.fromecreativenetwork.org.uk and
www.thelistfrome.co.uk.
It features an exhibition of past and present projects as well as a return of last year’s popular HOME CINEMA and the opportunity to share memories and stories about Frome. Local artist Tom Sturgess will paint a graffiti board based on some of the Shop Talk stories. Tom is a rising star of graffiti art, and his recent collaboration with Barry Cooper was very well received. You can watch Tom and Barry painting in the Mary Baily Playing Field on Saturday 9th July from 11.30 am. The finished work will be displayed in the Home in Frome Shop for the remainder of the festival. For more information visit
www.homeinfrome.org.uk.
SHOP TALK is supported by the National Lottery through the Heritage Lottery Fund
