The Amati String Quartetet

19:30 CHRISTINA ROSSETTI - HER LIFE IN FROME WITH TINA WALLER & THE AMATI STRING QUARTET Poet Christina Rossetti (1830-1894) left London and moved to Frome in her early twenties to help her mother run a girls school from 1853-54 and to care for her terminally-ill father. She hosted many visits from her brother Dante, founder of the Pre-Raphaelite art movement. Little known by Frome residents, Christina’s brief, though important chapter in the town influenced her later output, including Goblin Market (1862) and Christmas carol In The Bleak Midwinter. Narrator Tina Waller reads extracts from her letters and poems, interspersed with the greatest chamber music of the period from the Amati String Quartet, including Haydn’s String Quartet Op.76 No.4 (Sunrise), Puccini’s Chrysanthemums and Schubert’s String Quartet No.14 (Death & The Maiden).
