Pediatric Assessment Triangle

Use the to Evaluate Pediatric Patients

by Linda Bell, MSN, ARNP, EMT-P NAEMT Emergency Pediatric Care Course Committee

Emergencies involving children com‐ prise only a small percentage of ambu‐ lance runs, affording limited opportuni‐ ties for prehospital practitioners to develop and practice their skills in pedi‐ atric care. Prehospital practitioners typ‐ ically identify that the patients who are of the greatest concern for them in the field are children. This emphasizes the need for ongoing education in assess‐ ment and management of pediatric emergencies in order to gain knowl‐ edge and skills and to ensure clinical consistency with current practice guide‐ lines.
