Unruly Man Attempts to Take Officer’s Gun
by Andrea Ganley-Dannewitz Police say a drunk and unruly man tried to take an officer’s gun over the weekend. He was unsuccessful in that attempt and landed himself in police custody, and faces charges.
A 911 call from a residence on Lancaster Farm Road reporting a 19-year-old man was intoxicated and smashing things in the home prompted police to respond to a domestic violence incident. Police received the call at 11:06 p.m. on Saturday, April 9. When
officers arrived, the male subject identified by police as Jacob Madden, 19, of Salem was found in the basement of the home. The officers at the scene instructed Madden to get on the ground, but he refused and attempted to leave the room. One officer went to stop him from leaving and as he did so, Madden pushed the officer and grabbed for the officer’s gun, grasping it in the officer’s duty belt by the handle of the gun. The officer
was able to prevent his weapon from being taken from him and a struggle ensued between the suspect and the officer. While the struggle was ongoing, a second officer assisted and Madden was brought to the floor. He continued to be violent and struggle with the officers, but he was eventually handcuffed. During the struggle, Madden ripped an officer’s jacket right off of him, tearing it up. Police brought Madden to the Salem Police Department and charged him with two counts of criminal mischief, resisting arrest, unlawful possession of alcohol, and taking a firearm from a law enforcement officer. He was released on $1,000 cash bail and will be arraigned at Salem District Court within the next few weeks.

the race will go towards the GSSBR Memorial Scholarship, which was created in memory of realtor members who have passed away while a member of GSSBR. The scholarships go to well-rounded southern New Hampshire area high school students who have been involved in activities that benefited his/her community. The student must be furthering their education by attending an accredited college, university, or technical school in the fall.
