THE EMOTIONS OF MUSIC


Veigar Margeirs is known for composing music for movie-trailers and films. He has become known as a composer and professional in the film industry in Hollywood. Many, if not most, have heard his music although they don‘t know the artist. It is the broad background in music which defines Veigar as an artist. “I started playing in a marching band at the age of 10, playing the alto horn. A year later I switched to the trumpet and quickly became interested in different musical genres; classical, jazz, pop, rock. At 14 I started piano lessons and also played keyboards in a rock band. As a matter of fact, being in a rock band made me even more determined in being a professional musician, as I simply fell in love with improvising and playing by ear,” says Veigar. In 1991, at the age of 19, he graduated from the Keflavik Music School, and performed the Haydn Trumpet Concerto with the Iceland Symphony Orchestra. He toured in Asia with the acclaimed jazz fusion group Mezzoforte, as a trumpeter and keyboardist. Veigar moved to America in the fall of 1993 to study at Berkley College of Music. Later he transferred to the University of Miami and finished a Master’s Degree in Studio Jazz Writing in 1998. He started scoring film trailers for all the major movie studios in 2001. Veigar has worked on marketing campaigns for movies such as: ‘Te Lord of the Rings: Te Two Towers’ and ‘Batman Begins’. As Veigar says himself: “Tose movies where definitely the milestones which created a lot of big opportunities.”
