Gardens within a garden Pine Lodge Gardens, Holmbush,
St Austell, is a 30-acre estate that comprises gardens within a garden which hold a wide range of over 6000 plants, all of which are labelled.
In addition to rhododendrons, magnolias and camellias so familiar in Cornish gardens there are Mediterranean and southern- hemisphere plants grown for all year round interest.
Herbaceous borders, a fernery, a formal garden, a woodland walk and shrubberies can be enjoyed.
The water features on-site include a
large wild life pond, an ornamental pond with cascades, a lake with an island (home for ducks, black swans and water fowl) and marsh gardens.
Trees are also a speciality at Pine Lodge Gardens, with an Acer glade, a collection of 80 conifers, all different, in a six acre Pinetum and an Arboretum.
There is also a Japanese garden and a winter garden which is maturing well for you to enjoy.

Lose yourself and explore nature’s majesty
As Cornwall’s bamboo garden, Carwinion is home to over 200 towering species.
Nature lovers from around the world visit Carwinion to explore its acres of majestic bamboo, dazzling blooms and primrose carpets.
Visitors can wander among soaring dicksonia antarctica, chusan palms and impressive gunnera as well as colourful rhododendrons and camellias.
Carwinion also boasts a unique sensory garden, planted with help from the children of nearby Mawnan School.
Designed entirely with differently- abled people in mind, the sensory garden features plants that visitors can touch, smell and hear.
From winter rhododendrons to primrose carpets in spring, the legacy of Victorian plant hunters grows year-round at Carwinion.
Wander among Carwinion’s 12 acres of tranquil, unmanicured garden, home to one of the world’smost impressive bamboo collections, and relax with a home made cream tea on the terrace. Dogs welcome.

36 Cornish Visitor Guide - spring / summer 2011
Today's Carwinion is the product of 30 years of loving restoration by Anthony Rogers and constant
attention by his wife Jane.
The Rogers family and their cousins the Foxes of neighbouring Glendurgan, were Victorian plant hunters and their legacy can be seen in the garden today.
Carwinion House itself is a graceful 18th Century stone manor house that looks out over the peaceful gardens.
The sun trap terrace is an ideal spot to spend a warm spring afternoon and many say that Jane’s cream teas are the best in Cornwall.
