BRAD WINCHESTER The positives for Ruutu can also be applied to Winchester, another left wing brought
to Anaheim in a deal with the Blues (for a 2012 third-round pick) on the Feb. 28 trade deadline. He had been a part of three intense, chippy games between the Ducks and Blues this season, which featured 71 penalties spanning 279 minutes. The 6-5, 230-pounder accounted for 26 of those minutes during games on Oct. 11 and Jan. 12. “Being with the Blues, we had some really good games with Anaheim and hard-fought
battles,” Winchester said when he was acquired. “I certainly know how this team plays, with a lot of skill and toughness. I’m just happy to be a part of this locker room.” He could not have asked for two more exhilarating games to start his Ducks tenure, as
the club won back-to-back overtime home contests over rivals Detroit and Dallas to begin the month of March. “It was really exciting to get those big wins in a dramatic way,” Winchester said. “Everybody is pulling together and knows every point is crucial going forward.” Says Ellis, “Every game down this final stretch is going to be big. It’s a fun part of the
season where you’re jelling as a team and getting closer than you ever could. It’s a deter- mined group and we want to get in that playoff position.” #
