Fisk Second Graders Show Off Biography Projects by Robyn Hatch As part of the month-long theme for the Reading Incentive, the Fisk

School second-graders have been very busy this month working on their biography reports and projects. Each student created a life-size portrait of their chosen person, and the portraits were displayed around the three second-grade classrooms one afternoon last week. For the reports, the children used a variety of resources, including biographical interviews, to complete an in-depth study about a famous person who has made a contribution to the world. In the same afternoon, there was a special time when the students dressed up as the individuals that they had used for their projects, when they could also show off the hard work they had done throughout the month.

Long-time Salem residents George and Nicole Ogin make the perfect father/daughter team. While this year is very special to both of them as they are celebrating milestone birthdays, their way of celebrating is not only together, but also in an extremely charitable fashion. This month, George is celebrating his 50th

birthday, followed by daughter Nicole, who is celebrating her 21st in May. Together, they will run in the 115th Annual Boston Marathon to benefit Go Kids-Boston. The money this pair has raised will benefit inner-city children with health disparity issues through physical exercise, nutrition, education, and research. Together, George and Nicole have raised over $8,000 that will go directly to Go Kids-Boston, but they are striving to raise more. There is still a week left to raise more money for the charity. This will be the second time that George has

George has also run numerous 5K races to benefit various charities, but this is the first time Nicole has run a marathon. “We have been training together since she said she would run with me. This is Nicole’s first attempt at training for a marathon. Over the years, she has seen me train for and run road races; I think that’s what inspired her,” George said. One

her commitment to her education interfere with training for the Boston Marathon. “Some of my friends have asked why I am doing this and some want to know why I have been going home every weekend. Socially, it has been a little tough not seeing my friends during downtime at school. But my dad and I are very close and this experience has just made us even closer,” Nicole said.
