Buchanan Associates stuck to a Japanese essence and worked with a range of black granite and black glass, red leather, bespoke mink and black carpet as the main materials for the space. As expected in a Teppanyaki restaurant, the colour palette stays bold in a


Japanese style: black, red, walnut and white. Emphasizing this oriental touch, the designers chose to adorn the walls with strongly coloured kimonos; timber relief sculptures and illuminated acid etched ornamental Koi fish. oon to be opening, the Great Northern Hotel Arcade is part of the first phase of King’s Cross Central, the most significant development and regeneration opportunity in central London being undertaken by King’s Cross Central Limited Partnership. The Arcade will have direct access to the new Western ticket hall of King’s Cross Station and the adjacent St Pancras International. The original building, designed as a railway terminus hotel by Lewis Cubitt, opened


in 1855. It was the largest purpose-built hotel in London when completed and is now a Grade II listed building. The overall redevelopment strategy is to return the hotel back to its former glory, retaining original details while incorporating modern features. The completed arcade is a wholly contemporary intervention, sensitively integrated into the historic fabric of the original hotel whilst capturing and evoking London’s rich heritage for pedestrian arcades and grand hotel spaces. The arcade alterations and associated conservation and refurbishment works were completed by Kier Wallis with Lawray architects.
