This second phase included the launch of celebrity chef Heston Blumenthal’s restaurant. The hotly anticipated restaurant is accessible from the lobby of the Mandarin Oriental Hotel, with views over Hyde Park and floor to ceiling glass walls providing views of the kitchen. The restaurant seats 140 and has private dining for up to 10 guests, along with a chef’s table within the kitchen, seating 6. Vision worked closely alongside Gareth Sefton of Sefton Horn Winch, creative kitchen and restaurant concepts designers to create the distinctive kitchen facilities capable of serving an ‘upmarket’ brasserie style menu for both lunch and dinner. Finishing touch A

rmourcoat polished plaster has been used to stunning effect in the first London-based restaurant by celebrated chef Heston Blumenthal. ‘Dinner by Heston Blumenthal’ at the Mandarin

Oriental Hyde Park is the chef’s first foray outside of the village of Bray in Berkshire, and features his unique and multi-sensory approach to cooking. The Adam D. Tihany designed restaurant, inspired by historical British style references and Blumenthal’s novel cuisine, presents a subtle, elegant interior. The contemporary use of natural materials, including wood, leather and iron, has created a rustic, yet sophisticated, atmosphere. Pages from antique cookbooks decorate the bar area, glass walls offer a view into the open kitchen and a unique stainless steel pulley system rotates an open-fire spit. Expertly applied Armourcoat ‘Smooth’ polished plaster has been used extensively throughout the restaurant. This seamless wall finish, composed of hydrated lime and 30% pre-consumer recycled marble, is similar in appearance to marmorino stucco. The finish is dependent on the hand of the artisan applicator, making it possible to achieve anything from a lightly polished surface to a more highly burred marbelised effect. for the past two years in the progressive refurbishment and upgrading of the Goodenough Club which offers hotel services to the nearby Goodenough College in Mecklenburg Square. Following on from the successful refurbishment of the bedrooms and bathrooms; the guest lounge was worked on in conjunction and under the direction of the Club. The aim has been to provide increased value to their guest services, a food buffet and a lounge area for its busy London location. The choice of furniture and soft furnishings echoes the age of the building and is sympathetic to the multi purpose use of this area. Leather-wrapped furniture (with small chrome feet) adds a multi-purpose use; the small side-tables double as footstools (the top surface is upholstered for comfort but just enough to stand a glass of wine on). The credenzas are also leather-wrapped and are used as touch down stations. Overall the design adds the final touches to a simply planned guest area. Tel: +44 (0)845 0942951
