Interior designers Made Thought and architects D-raw collaborated with the team at Fenwick to create a restaurant to complement the elegant shopping environment – the stylish, light space features pale tones on furniture fabrics, striking and comfortable seating in both the restaurant and bar area, tall windows facing onto Brook Street, a dramatic polished pewter bar, and a library wall lined with the latest fashion books. This is the first restaurant project undertaken


from conception to opening by A Private View Ltd, the partnership of Evening Standard restaurant critic Fay Maschler and journalist and broadcaster Simon Davis. “rhubarb”, known for their catering to the smartest parties as well as for their restaurant outlets, are the operators. Design Research Studio, the restaurant references the illustrious history of the RA with materials chosen to complement the existing fabric of the grand Regency building, including marble, glass and velvet. To extend the gallery experience for diners, Design Research Studio has designed a dramatic freestanding unit in the centre of the space. Consisting of a number of glass cubes, the


structure houses a selection of statues and busts which date back to 1897. The 150 cover restaurant is separated into zones and each area is inspired by the work of a Royal Academy great, such as Turner or Sir John Soane. •
