the results speak for themselves. The restaurant was named one of the “50 Best New U.S. Restaurants, 2009” by Travel + Leisure Magazine (May 2009) and received a coveted “Three Bell, Excellent” review from the Philadelphia Inquirer. The ambiance is dazzling as our photo indicates, and the food is whatMichael Schulsondoes best. InJapan, izakayas are casual pubs where people go to relax and socialize with great saki, food and beer. The Izakaya at the Borgata might be a tad more glitzy, but the basic concept is the same. In terms of Japanese cuisine, there is nothing

more important than the fish, and the same holds true with Michael Schulson in Atlantic City. With seafood all over the menu, the main dishes include the Glazed Black Cod (blood orange, avocado and wasabi rice); Japanese Sea Bass (potato dumpling, morel and edamame); Broiled Chilean Sea Bass (miso broth, udon noodles, and clams); Roasted Scallops (tempura squash, ponzu and daikon); and Shrimp, Scallop, Lobster and Crab (taramind, noodles, clams and mussels). Sampan is one of Philadelphia’s most interesting

new restaurants and is basically an Izakaya without the glitz ( and a bit more small-plate oriented) which is an important part of the sharing concept. It’s intimate and affordable with a “New York” casual look and feel. There’s a great bar with an emphasis on wines by the glass, saki and beer (it’s not every spot that you can enjoy a Tiger beer from Singapore or King Way Beer from China). The menu includes Korean Fried Chicken;

Roasted Duck Breast; Beef Short Rib; Miso Glazed Salmon; and Broiled Chilean Sea Bass. The complete menus for both locations are listed below). Themanhas two fantastic restaurants; is involved

in a television show (Ultimate Cake Off); he is the creator of a line of upscale Asian prepared foods throughwww.AppetizersToGo.com; andhepossesses an amazing resume. He speaks Japanese; he can cook, and he looks like a movie-star. I’m guessing there is yet another celebrity chef in our midst. 
