Chandler memories, election at history meeting
A panel of longtime area residents will share some of their memories of the Chandler area at the 4 p.m. Tue., April 12 meeting of the Chandler Historical Society. Speakers include Jim Patterson, Mark Schnepf, Corley Haggarton, Norman Knox, Mac Dossey and Donna Ellsworth Bolen.
It’s also the group’s annual meeting, and there will be an election of board members.
The 4 p.m. Tue., May 10 meeting will be the last until September and features Sue Sossaman talking about “Farming and First Families of the East Valley,” according to Speaker Coordinator Camille Irwin. Both meetings will be held at the Chandler Museum, 178 E. Commonwealth Ave. in downtown Chandler. For questions, call 480-201-5884.

into Chandler urban lakes SanTan Sun area fi shing enthusiasts can try to catch
fi sh from a fresh stock of 15- to 20-inch channel catfi sh from the urban fi shing lakes at Veterans Oasis and Desert Breeze parks in Chandler. Daily limits are four catfi sh per person at all urban
lakes.
Catfi sh season recently kicked off at all Urban Fishing Program lakes and ponds across the Valley. More than 14,000 pounds of Arkansas farm-raised catfi sh are being delivered and stocked into Urban Fishing Program lakes every two weeks from now through early July.

Free home ownership, foreclosure counseling
Thanks to a new partnership between the City of Chandler and the Newtown Community Development Corporation, free home ownership and foreclosure counseling are available to Chandler families. The City provides offi ce space in downtown Chandler to certifi ed housing counselors from Newtown who can help residents resolve credit issues, provide information about down payment assistance and other resources, including Newtown’s matching funds program, and help families with low credit scores qualify for a home loan.
Homeowners experiencing mortgage problems can get help from a certifi ed foreclosure prevention
counselor to fi nd the best solution to their current situation. The counselor can help address job loss and reduced wages or hours, and is experienced with loan modifi cations and assistance programs. Potential homebuyers can receive free credit reports and meet with certifi ed housing counselors to analyze their credit and current buying power.
Counselors are available from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. Wednesdays at the City’s Neighborhood Resources offi ces, located at 235 S. Arizona Ave. in downtown Chandler. To schedule an appointment, call 480-517-1589.
April 2 - 15, 2011 Gilbert hosts neighborly conference
“How to Put ‘Neighbor’ Back in Neighborhood,” the annual Neighborhoods Arizona! Conference, is held 8:30 a.m. to 2 p.m. Sat., April 9 at the Southeast Regional Library in Gilbert.
Gilbert Mayor John Lewis and Leadership Centre President Gilbert Vice Mayor Les Presmyk will make opening remarks at this interactive program designed to help residents and professionals create positive change in their communities and provide them with information and networking opportunities. Topics include “Creating Community Lifestyle – What’s Working and How to Keep It Going,” “Resources That Don’t Break the Bank” and “Social Networking – Low or No Cost Ways to Spread the Word.” A panel of HOA attorneys will discuss decisions HOAs need to make regarding medical marijuana and provide an update on pending HOA legislation. There will also be question-and-answer sessions on these and other HOA legal hot topics.
