The Queen’s Award for Voluntary Service 2007
The Queen is to celebrate her Golden Jubilee in 2007. As part of celebrations there will be a new annual UK National Honour to recognise and reward excellence in voluntary activities carried out by community groups. The Award will be given in recognition of outstanding achievement by groups of two or more people in the United Kingdom, who volunteer their own time to enhance and improve the quality of life and opportunity for individuals or other groups in the community.
So do you know a group of volunteers in your community or church who make a difference in the community by devoting their time to helping others? Successful groups will receive a certificate signed by The Queen. They will also receive a commemorative piece of crystal for display at their main place of operation.
Who is eligible?
A group (two or more people) is eligible to be nominated for Award if:
• It is providing a high quality service to benefit individuals or groups in the community.
• It is operating and providing a service in the UK. • It has been operating for a minimum of 3 years (exceptions may be made for short-term projects); and
• It is made up entirely of volunteers (including Trustees), or it includes some paid staff but they must be in the minority of those involved.
Who can nominate?
A nominator can be anyone who is not involved directly in the running of the group, including for example a partner or relative of anyone involved in running it. Groups cannot be nominated by their own volunteers. Beneficiaries of a group’s service are able to nominate the group, only one nomination form from a beneficiary is permitted.
